So, today's my day off... ish. Involuntary part-timership. Our other clients don't want any work done at the moment--despite my prodding--and so I whipped up some ad-hoc queries for our ticketing system for Jay to use, with multiple joins and interesting conditionals in the WHERE-clause. It's for reporting purposes, so that he can explain how many hours each of us worked on what issue, and that kind of stuff. Brian told me not to worry, said that he can make payroll this month... which is nice, don't get me wrong, but confusing as heck. With a mighty hand and an outstretched arm the Lord took us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
In every generation each person is obligated to regard themself as if they had come out of Egypt, as it is said: "You shall tell your child on that day, it is because of this that the Lord did for me when I left Egypt." Tonight was seder, which Carin and I had both been looking forward to. It was even more excellent than I had anticipated. For the ceremony itself, Jeff was pretty eye-rolly, and Shelley even was a bit too... but I didn't see it as a boring run-through as I had in years past; instead it was taking one day out of the year to tell the stories that our ancestors told. I deeply appreciated the opportunity to do so. The fantastic food--there was some kind of salad involving peaches and kibbled veggie burgers, among other treats--was just a bonus.
Even Bear showed up tonight--looking much better than the last time I saw him. He wasn't doing well not too long ago, but he's on better (apart from the weed) drugs now, and it makes me glad to have him around. He congratulated Carin for being back in school, and even invited me over to smoke a bowl with him some time. I declined the dope (I can't justify the potential risk), but I will stop by at some point to hang out. I hadn't seen him in... dang, I can't even remember. It's been a heck of a while.
He had a grandson with him, four months old. His mother sort of foisted him into my arms, over m (admittedly not very strenuous) objections, which I think is the first time I've ever held a baby. It was like a giant warm water balloon.
No comments today; I was busy basking in the warm glow of family and friends. |
