in which my mechanic attempts to cheat me. [Mar. 21st, 2007|02:47 am]
Today, for the last time (this quarter), I worked on my final project instead of doing work at work. I mean, I helped people out and all, and I read important docs, but I don't really have much to show for the last two days. I'm going to have to catch up during the rest of the week--it's going to be busy.

I am displeased with my mechanic. I will explain.

Carin had brought the car over to the mechanic's because the exhaust system had some holes in it (I had run over a low-lying concrete barrier in a parking lot, knocking something loose), and because my car recently broke 200,000 miles, and I wanted to get it tuned up. When Carin got the car back, she discovered that it was shaking and rattling like mad. (It also had a crack in the windshield and a new passenger-side wing mirror, but that was from her trying to tack down the piece of dashboard they'd left up, and from misjudging pulling into the parking lot.) I took it back to them after she picked me up, and Bob, the mechanic who worked on it, tried to assure me that it was better now, that I had compression, see, and that was good. I told him, again, that it was rattling madly. Eventually I got someone to look at it, and ended up leaving it there overnight because I had to come back and do homework.

They tried to cheat me! They handed me back a car that was clearly in worse shape than when they got it from me, despite my handing them a large chunk of change for parts and labor, then pissed on my head and told me it was raining. Unbelievable. They'd always been quite fair to me in the past, but now I have to go find a new mechanic. Apparently I'm not the only person who's noticed this; when I got there, the proprietor was explaining to an irate customer that he was a "cheap motherfucker", and that he had plenty of business and didn't need his.

I finished the website on time, barely. I did the extra credit bit (embedding a media file), made up the missing assignment to create a web form, and mailed it all in at 11:59 PM. Whew. And so concludes the quarter. Credits-wise, I'm now one-third of the way to that degree, once they apply them.
