I was again useful at work. I seem to be on a roll. Nick asked me off-hand if I could run a custom report for him. It required some changes--an extra parameter--and an extra filter put in by hand. Once that was done, he seemed happy... then he asked for one report for each manufacturer. (There are about three thousand in the system.) However, with the ability to run reports in an automated fashion from a test-runner program, the main issue was setting up an incantation to observe its progress. (I went with watch 'ls -lart *pdf|tail -40; echo; echo "100*$(ls -1 *pdf|wc -l)"/3016|bc -l'.) I adore automation, I really do.
Carin and I joined my folks for dinner this evening. It was all pretty low-key; we ate buffet food and shot the breeze, then picked up some groceries and went home. The roads had black ice on them, and the car skidded around. I white-knuckled it at twenty miles an hour while Carin read more of The Demon-Haunted World to me. When we got back, we read some more Shakespeare together. I have a sort of diffuse understanding of it; the linenotes help.
