| movie night: danny the dog. |

Tonight, Carin and I went out to Rick's to watch "Danny the Dog", which has been released in this country under a different title. I was impressed by the music (well, not so much the music over the end credits); I was impressed that the pot-smoking high school kids a few rows down actually shut up when Carin ssh'd them, I was impressed that the trailer, while seeming to be one of those annoying 'entire movie in two minutes!' synopses, actually did not spoiler the movie. But most of all, I was impressed by the movie. Most definitely a worthy use of time; my expectations were quite high from hearing so much about it, but... well, I'd recommend going out and seeing it.
Talking about hardware upgrades with Rick, I have decided why it is that I have yet to perform any major system upgrades. There is, of course, the money issue, but hardware is really cheap enough that I could get a stunning improvement over my current setup with a relatively small expenditure. But there are a few things I want to have before I tear hekyll's guts and replace them. No more fucking ribbon cables. (Well, maybe one for a floppy drive. Because if you don't have a floppy drive, you'll need one.) But all SATA components. SATA hard drives, DVD burner, everything. Because ribbon cables are a fucking scourge. And I'd like whatever version of Linux I upgrade to to have good transcode support, to stay far, far away from RPM hell, and to support, or at least be prepared to support, eye candy like SVG icons and dynamic themes. (I want to write my own dynamic themes!)
And now that I have my copy of Church and State back, I'm going to foist it on Carin. I try not to foist too much, but I've been on such a Dave Sim kick lately that if I don't have someone to talk it over with, I may pop. She hasn't quite read them all in order, but I'm sure she'll enjoy it. She was already cackling over at Rick's place at "The Wolveroach... stands... alone!". Still to come---the Secret Sacred Wars Roach! (I really should send Dave Sim that letter I typed most of a few months ago. Really, I should.)
Oh, and we watched Babylon 5 4x08, "The Illusion of Truth" tonight, which should be mandatory watching for anyone going into journalism. Ah, Carin thought she knew what was going on, but she didn't know quite how bad it was. She's taken to asking me when jms will stop beating on his characters, when they'll finally have happiness. Well, I've elected not to spoiler anything, not a jot. I've got her in my dork-clutches now. |
