| productivity: snowblowing and coding. |

I was productive today. Let me count the ways! First up, I spent most of my time programming. Jeff, being the genius that he is, made it so that Wx::Locale doesn't crash the app, by using some kinda wrapper for it. But i18n doesn't really work, so it's been commented out. There's a presentation on Wednesday, and so I coded a bunch of interface logic and tweaked up the GUI, while Jeff worked some sort of behind-the-scenes mojo to turn the stub calls I'd written into useful remote database calls. I really feel like I haven't done much impressive on this project, and I feel really rather... dumb for having Jeff fix a number of my problems. But we got a great deal done today, and I'm happy about that. Tomorrow, I tweak the interface and try to make it idiot-proof.
I also got a call today about interviewing, tomorrow, at Nicole's workplace. It involves a background check (for a criminal record, which I'm pretty sure I don't have) and some urinalysis. Good thing I don't smoke the reefer. This is all pretty short notice. Confidence is the most important thing. They're desperate for people; they want to hire me. Hence, I shall get a haircut tomorrow, put on a shirt and tie, and impress the hell out of my prospective employers.
Who knows; maybe I'll actually get employed. Half-time is $16k yearly, full-time is $32k yearly. Not the sort of pay I'm looking for, but it'll line my pockets for the here-and-now.
It snowed today. Contrary to my prior beliefs, the snowblower came in handy more than once this year. (Now, if my father can keep it from rusting over the summer, it'll actually be useful next year too.) Indeed, I used it to clear the driveway quickly and thoroughly, with a minimum of effort. However, someone had left a metal broomhandle lying down, and the snowblower chewed it up---or tried to. It was partly wrapped around the drive shaft, and I had to break it into three pieces and unravel it with my hands (which one should, of course, never put into a snowblower) to get it out of there. It was... intimidatingly powerful. |
