| the mystery of the inexplicable rise in electromotive force. |

I won my parking-ticket appeal, the one for fifty bucks. It's duct taped to my door, a small victory to hold and to cherish. Pissing away my impotent fury into the bureaucratic wind.
Last night, I watched X-Files 3x11, "Revelations". Guest starring Lee Ermey, the drill sergeant from "Full Metal Jacket", as a preacher. Gotta love them guest stars. So far I've noticed Giovanni Ribisi, Jack Black, Peter Boyle (of course!) and Seth Green. Nice to see a show with decent funding and no need to occasionally pander to the kids. (Sorry! Sorry! Didn't mean to trash-talk Buffy! Now for the contrition...)
Today was spent in the fucking lab. My lab partner Sal showed up, and we did two thirds of the two week lab in about four hours. He's a Marine, and we talked about that. He's conservative---astonishingly so, to the point that I think Lee would try to claw his eyes out---and we talked about his reasons for wanting to drop fire on children. He says that he's fine with that, he says they chant cadences about lighting people on fire. Wacky folks, Marines. I told him to go read Starship Troopers.
He also thinks that women shouldn't be cops, firefighters or combat troops. Wow. I mean... wow. That's a pretty strong statement for a guy to make. He says that he has a very old-fashioned kind of girlfriend, the kind who wants to leech the life force from him and never work a day in her life. Or "be supported by him", whatever the PC term is. Icky.
Between all of that, we finished measuring the unknown components. The last black box, said to be the most complex, seemed to output a higher voltage than was input. This is, of course, not really possible. The effect was clear, measurable and undeniable. Sal and I let our urge to get the fuck out of there outweigh our scientific curiosity, and that was that.
I wasted the rest of the day, but there's always movie night to be had. It even looks like it might for real happen tonight. New dude from the floor is going along. Whee. |
