push, pop, enqueue dequeue hut! [Apr. 5th, 2002|09:48 am]
Well, that was mildly harrowing.

I went to the math lab to spend quality time coding with Brett. I think he's still working on his right now. Unlike most other all-nighters, this one involved an hour and a half of sleep at the end. I'm still kind of woozy.

Twice now, I've failed to understand the requirements for a project. Halfway through the night, Brett revealed to me that we had to make an interactive version of the program that would do more than simply benchmark our algorithms. Had it not been for this, I'd have gotten three or four hours of sleep instead of less than two. Bah.

This morning, the TA told me that not only couldn't she compile my code, it didn't have a "fill" function. Since having a "fill" function for a stack or queue seemed on its face to be a ridiculous requirement, I'd just ignored it. Somehow I managed to implement it in about four minutes, leaving time to hit the livejournal before having to run off to probability.

I'm actually pretty proud of the work I'm doing. Sure, it bears just about no resemblance to any real-world coding project I may become involved in, but at least it exercises some of the same skills, skills which I had feared would atrophy and shrivel.

So, I'm off to probability, then to a short nap, then the film festival, then a longer nap (and a new ep which could very well be here by then), then the strong possibility of hedonistic excess with Blake and cute squishy friends.

I just really have to make a note to myself to wash between now and then.

the festival. [Apr. 5th, 2002|07:10 pm]
The film festival was quite an improvement over last year---Blake actually turned down some submissions. I still feel terribly, terribly cheap for not submitting a damned thing this year.

My big plan for next time around is to tie in a planned short with an independent-lab course, so it's part of a big worky thing.

I saw Jodie there, Jodie of close, but no play 'fame'. I think she was there with her folks.

Will I still try to get play with her this evening? I dunno, perhaps the prospect of free happy nookie on the exact terms I've been looking for has taken the edge off my lecherous endeavors back here.

I should take another nap. On the other hand, angst-dripping "Buffy" femmeslash beckons. Perhaps I'd enjoy it more if I were more awake, though. Ah, choices.

Today's ep, 3x15 "Consequences", had a not-so-minor BDSM reference in it. It's always kinda heartening to see this kind of thing, and by "this kind of thing", I mean BDSM not portrayed as a sick, abnormal or evil thing, but rather as something normal people do.

(Nitpick: in both instances that I've seen this (the other was in "Family Guy" 2x14, "Let's Go To The Hop"), they say "safety word" instead of "safeword". I have no idea why.)
